Over recent years Urgel Ganadera, S.A. has implemented sanitary control techniques to meet the needs of growing consumer demand. To this end, it has installed the latest generation of slaughter machinery.
It is important to emphasise the fact that Urgel Ganadera, S.A. carries out daily control of bacteria, whilst all living birds coming into the abattoir are checked by way of antemorten sanitary guide (the aim of this step is to ensure that the animal to be slaughtered has been recognised by the vet and does not have any pathological process and all suppression steps have been taken). This control is currently carried out at the officially approved laboratory of the company COPAGA, SDA. COOP. in Lérida; the report from this laboratory is attached to the slaughter documentation, and is available for viewing by both the distributor and consumers. Additionally, a copy of the control report which the Administration carries out every day is also attached. The health controls are sent once a month to the C.E.S.A.C. (Catalonia Animal Health Centre) laboratories for verification.
The slaughter process for fowl has resulted in minimal manipulation by abattoir staff who oversee the control of operations.

In the packaging sections, the product is classified by size, type of packaging and special labels, by staff that the company has trained for this purpose, thus allowing the final product to fulfil maximum quality guarantees.
Finally, the sacrificed birds are stored in temperature controlled chambers, awaiting dispatch to the end customer. Urgel Ganadera, S.A. currently has a fleet of refrigerated lorries to reach all of Spain with maximum quality guarantees, and is also now selling products in Europe.
